ip video conferencing

My mother has a Dell computer with a speed of (I’m guessing) 1 gigahz. It is about 4 to 5 years old. Is this good enough for viewing video conferencing with a broadband IP? She can’t travel and I am undergoing chemo treatments. This and other factors has resulted in a 2 years since I have seen her. I suspect it doesn’t have much of a video card and probably 250 to 500 meg memory. So where is it best to optimize the video conferencing components: memory, or video card, or cpu speed? I don’t have much money to spend on it being upgraded.

online video conferencing

Okay…we’ve been getting compaq/gateway for a while now, and now have a 3rd PC that’s basically useless with viruses and garbage. Yes, we have spyware, etc., but stuff is still getting in.

I’m also getting more into video editing now that my kid is dancing, and most folks I talk to say Macs are better for that stuff.

So, considering I’m sick of fixing, crashing, redoing and finally buying a new PC every 1-1 1/2 yrs, I’m considering a iMac. Went and saw one…impressed compared to the old Apples from 15 yrs ago.

No gaming…just online chatting, video conferencing, editing, etc. Looking at the 17″ iMac that’s $1200. Need advice. Thanks.
I’m not bent on an iMac…I’m just tired of all the problems I’ve been having with the PCs lately. Maybe there’s something with the PCs and should try a different brand. But it’s becoming a pricey experiment right now.

The last Apple I had I nearly threw out a window, so it’s not like I love the company or anything.
